Nicks lecture vector works:
– vector works is another format to build ground plans of your house/site and items inside it, allowing you to choose the colours, patterns and designs of the interior and exterior.
-surprisingly after the difficulty I had with sketch up last year, I got the hang of vector works extremely quickly and feel it is ten times more useful and easier than sketch up
– I’m hoping this format will help us develop a good prototype of our inside garden, which will then be made into a scale model
– here is my work from today’s lesson:
23/10/14
– continuing from last Thursday we built and expanded our skills on vector works, learning this programmes way of making a ground plan and a 3D ground plan
– once again I felt I picked this up rather quickly, as it was a simple use of the line tool to outline the guidelines, you just had to press tab and type in the given/chosen measurements. Once your guideline is draw out you simply click on the wall icon and drag it along the guideline pressing U to move it to he left or right side of the line, depending what side you want your wall on. To increase or decrease thickness of the walls we pressed the … Tool or double clicked and edited the size where appropriate, you could do this with the doors and the windows too, so it fitted accurately on the plan matching the measurements.
– once our wall were created we then inserted the doors and the windows via the tool box’s window and door icons, and double clicking in the position your wanted it, however you could rotate the window or door by just one click before slotting it in.
– the next task was to insert oval walls, which was by the curved wall icon. To decorate the walls we used the resources browser application on our palette, which gave us a variety of wall designs or the option to choose our own, it was advised to drag the picture onto the wall as it was a easier process than the settings application.
– now with colourful walls, we moved to the floor and selected each floor as we wanted to get rid of it, this was done by pressing model, then using the excluding tool and changing it to 1.
– I then moved onto decorating my model, by inserting escalators, chairs and tables, shelving and a fireplace as shown…
– we lastly got shown how to insert different kinds of furniture rather than the basics on the tool box, which was done through our resource browser and changing the file to libraries within vector works documents and it presented a wide selection of furniture from dentist chairs to your ordinary sofa.
Over all I found this very easy in comparison to sketch up and am delighted to be using it as I feel it will give a good portrayal of our events scale model design
After learning how to use vector works we produced a ground plan of our catering trailor, it is a very basic outline of the interior as our group decided to make a model to the 1:20 scale
